We at Jar of Grasshoppers Productions are excited to announce the DVD release of “Where Did the Horny Toad Go?”. We have had very successful screenings of the film in both Tucson and Oklahoma City and hope to continue to show the film in theaters around the Southwestern United States, but in the meantime you can obtain a copy to watch at home!

Want to know more about horned lizard conservation? There’s an app for that (kind of).  The Horned Lizard Conservation Society (HLCS) was formed in 1990 by a group of concerned citizens in Austin, Texas. HLCS is entirely volunteer based, and all officers and members volunteer their time and resources to protect horned lizards.

The mission of the HLCS is to document and publicize the values and conservation needs of horned lizards, to promote horned lizard conservation projects and to assist with horned lizard management initiatives throughout their ranges.

A lot has been happening with “Where Did the Horny Toad Go?” lately, and while we work to promote the film on our facebook page, we sometimes neglect to share news here on our website. How could we have failed to mention that the official soundtrack from composer Steven Stark is now available on iTunes! Really, “Where Did the Horny Toad Go?” would not be the film it is today without the heartfelt score from Steven.

Steven describes the album on his website: “Scored for acoustic guitar, mandolin, cello, violin and melodica, the film score is a musical portrait of the horned lizard and the humans they inspire.”

During the making of the film, Stefanie Leland and her crew spent four days at the Southwestern Research Station in the Chiricahua Mountains of Arizona with lead horned lizard researcher Wade C. Sherbrooke, Ph.D of Tucson, Arizona. We gained lots of valuable information on horned lizard behavior while visiting Sherbrooke at the station and we are looking forward to seeing Wade again during our stay in Tucson. Wade will be joining us at the premiere and we will all be available for the question and answers session following the Sunday screening.

We have been asked to participate in a number of activities while in Tucson, such as a large fair called 2nd Saturdays Downtown. The goal of this fair is to use art and entertainment to revitalize downtown Tucson, and from what we are hearing, it has been very successful. We have also been asked to participate in the Festival-in-the-Schools program in which filmmakers are asked to visit Tucson schools and talk about filmmaking.

Below are some screen caps from the film’s animation, and there is also a link to a sample of the music.  In the meantime, Steven is working to create an official soundtrack version of the score, and Shawn will be working on the artwork for the official poster and DVD case.  We hope to be able to release the movie out into the wild soon.  Stay tuned!

That’s Stefanie pulling down the post-it note version of the movie.  We’re pleased to say that things are wrapping up post-production on “Where Did the Horny Toad Go?” and have begun submitting to festivals!  Things have been going very well with the various efforts of our composer and animator.  The music is absolutely perfect, and the animation we’re seeing is spot-on.  In the near future we hope to be posting some video updates covering different aspects of the film’s post production, and perhaps even some fun excerpts from the film.  In the meantime, we’ll be getting ready for the next phases of finishing the film up for distribution, and perhaps even tackle another fundraising campaign.
