Let’s Build a House
Hey, guess what. We still don’t live in an Airstream. I know, broken record. But seriously? I thought we were going to be living in it all the way back in June of 2015! Haha, no. It’s still in the shop. Has been since August 5th. Maybe the repair place is playing a joke on us. Maybe even they don’t think we should actually live in an Airstream. Oh well. That’s another blog post for another day. Let’s talk about our house!
This is huge. It’s what we’ve been dreaming of for years, and now it’s actually happening (almost). For years I’ve been following straw bale building techniques. Stefanie and I actually went to a workshop in 2015 (seen above) where we helped build a straw bale home. Well, the time has come for us to host a workshop of our own! We are thrilled to announce that our home has been selected for a workshop in the fall of 2017. October 8-14th to be exact. Led by Andrew Morrison of Strawbale.com, this workshop will be open to around 35 people to come and learn all about straw bale building techniques while working on our home! There’s no better way to learn than getting in there and just doing it. Believe me, we’ve done it. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have been selected. Be sure to hop on over to strawbale.com to learn more about our workshop.
Nothing like being committed to hosting a workshop to light a fire under your butt! And, um, a little girl on the way! But that’s ok, because progress has been amazing! What a difference a day makes. Especially a week’s worth of days. Our builder, Mr. Robert Wylie has been hard at it. He will be working with Stefanie on managing the entire building process. When I mentioned that Stefanie was going to be managing the process to my friend Matt, he said, “Oh, too bad Stefanie isn’t a badass producer who’s accustomed to managing crews of all shapes and sizes.” For those of you who get queasy when subjected to gushy lovey dovey stuff, maybe change the channel now. Stefanie IS a badass. She manages production crews all the time in her line of work, and she is already doing an incredible job at working with Mr. Wylie to get the ball rolling on the construction process. I’m incredibly lucky to have her. We really can do anything together. I truly believe that.
Ok, maybe everyone who changed the channel has tuned in again. Just know that with all the challenges we’ve faced since starting this journey back in January of 2015, we really do have a lot to be thankful for. Our families have answered the call time and time again. I don’t know what we would have done without our amazing families. Here’s to you and yours. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.
