We Have A Road!…Almost
It’s been a long road. Or at least a long wait to get a road. When we bought our 20 acre patch back in April, we knew the first thing we’d have to do is get a road pushed in so that we could access it. We met with a local road builder, Mr. Wiley, and came up with the best location for a driveway to be pushed into the property so that we could begin clearing areas of the property. But then the rain came. And came. And came.
But then the rain stopped! For a few days. So then we waited some more.
Then we got a call that work could begin! But we had to leave town to attend a straw bale house building workshop. So we had to wait some more. When we returned from the workshop, I immediately had to get back on the road to come teach for my sixth year at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute down in Southwest Oklahoma in the Quartz Mountains. It’s been a long week, and I’ve been missing my family. But yesterday I received word that Mr. Wiley was taking his equipment over, and was going to begin work! While he was only able to get just a little bit started, he’s going to be going back throughout the week, and we should have our road pushed in by Friday if not before! Oh, happy day! I cannot tell you how happy I was when Stefanie had texted me that news, followed by a few photos of Mr. Wiley showing up with his beautiful heavy machinery. Heavy machinery that was to build our road. When we bought this property, we began our journey to make our dream a reality. While the road to fully realize that dream is going to be a long one, we can at least say that soon we’ll officially be able to take our first step on that road.
